Northwest Africa 17472 is a Martian meteorite. Two stones, weighing 1.8 kilograms and 1.2kilograms, were found in Northwest Africa in 2024. NWA 17472 is classified as a shergottite. The total known mass is 4 kilograms.
NWA 17472 meteorites have a weathered fusion crust. Broken fragments reveal an interior that is gray, with pyroxene crystals and maskelynite, which appears glassy and appears to sparkle in the light. This meteorite from Mars is also highly shocked.
