NWA 15428 Pallasite Meteorite
The Northwest Africa 15428 meteorite was found in 2022 and has been classified as a pallasite type meteorite. Many pieces of NWA 15428 were recovered with an official total known weight of 1800 grams.
Pallasite meteorites are a rare type of space rock containing crystals of olivine, the mineral of the gemstone peridot. Additionally it contains nickel-iron metal which surrounds the crystals.
NWA 15428 is composed of nearly equal portions of olivine in crystals about one centimeter in size and kamacite and taenite metal . There is troilite as an accessory mineral in the meteorite. NWA 15428 has a low shock state and a low weathering stage.
