NWA 15016 is a Martian meteorite. Shergottite meteorites like NWA 15016 are the largest family of martian meteorites recovered. They are the S on the SNC three main types of meteorites from Mars. One 40 gram mass of NWA 15016 was originally found in 2022 and later purchased from a meteorite dealer in Northwest Africa.
NWA 15016 is a highly shocked meteorite with a low weathering state. It has a grayish to greenish color and is composed of a coarse grained rock with a diabasic texture. NWA 15016 has shock veins and melt pockets. No Fusion Crust was found on NWA 15016.
