The NWA 12241 meteorite was purchased in August 2018 from a dealer in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Algeria. Many broken pieces of NWA 12241 were recovered some with areas of black fusion crust remaining. NWA 12241 has been classified as a Martian Shergottite meteorite. A total known weight of 1150 grams was reported.
The meteorite is friable with a pale green color and white plagioclase inclusions. Levels of shock are judged to be low, based on the absence of optical effects in the plagioclase and the complete lack of maskelynite.
NWA 12241 is friable and was difficult to cut into slices. Please keep this specimen in it’s plastic case for protection.
