On February 18, 1948 Norton County, Kansas was showered with a fall of stones over a wide area. More than 100 stones were recovered, yet Norton County as a meteorite will probably always be remembered for the single large mass of about one ton. This is very unusual of stone meteorites and Norton County is one among a handful of very large stones. As an Aubrite it is also an unusual variety of achondrite. Light in color and having a crystalline texture Norton County has been a popular and sought after meteorite by collectors since it first arrived.
