Imilac is a stony-iron pallasite type meteorite. The Imilac meteorite strewnfield was discovered in 1822 in the Atacama Desert of Chile. It is estimated that one ton of the Imilac pallasite has been recovered from the 8 kilometer long strewnfield. Pallasites are the gemstones of meteorites being a mixture of bright nickel iron metal and olivine crystals. Small fragments of Imilac often lack the olivine crystals which have weathered out leaving a skeleton of nickel iron metal. Larger masses of Imilac preserve their beautiful golden colored olivine crystals. Imilac is noted for being one of the most stable of the pallasite meteorites.
