Bechar 008 is a Howardite type achondrite meteorite. Bechar 008 belongs to the H of HED group of meteorites which may have their origin in the asteroid Vesta. Bechar 008 was found by meteorite hunters in 2022 and purchased several months later in July of 2022 from a dealer in Mauritania. Several fragments were originally found with a total weight of 1700 grams.
Bechar 008 is a polymict achondritic breccia with mineral and lithic clasts up to 5 mm in size. The lithic clasts are embedded in a fine grained clastic matrix of related debris. The lithic clasts of Bechar 008 are mainly eucritic gabbros and granulites showing exsolved pyroxene. Bechar 008 is a moderately shocked meteorite with a low weathering grade.
